Summer 08: sketchbook update

The summer has been hectic, stressful, challenging and altogether a nuisance but it has also been extremely rewarding in many ways. Being a part of the Glass Fellowship gave me a great deal of insight into the many sides of mural work. I'll post more about those later, along with some pictures hopefully.

More on fall to come when I catch up on sleep and assignments. I am probably going to have to quit Starbucks for this semester. I already reduced my hours but it would be sheer bliss to throw everything I have into illustration for once and not have to worry about a job for just a few months. That's really what I need. Perhaps that's one of the reasons I did so well in France, no distractions.

Anyway, here is the beginning of a long array of stuff from the summer. All done in moleskin sketchbook. Paintings are watercolour, ink, caran d'ache, pencil. My favourites are the drawings of Anna and Mathew.

Children's Book Update: main character design

Mickey the Marmoset's Wild Tamarin Band is going well, although not painlessly. Lots of things to work on, character development is difficult, trying to solidify how he moves, makes faces, making sure he appears recognizable across the board. Have the manuscript now, working on other characters and general guideline of the 32 pages.

Children's Book Update: first character sketch

Children's Book

I am so thrilled to be taking this class, especially since my teacher is Gary Barker, of Garfield fame. Lots of work to be done but this is what I want to do, so it's all gravy to me. This work reassures me that I picked the correct major. Anyway, working on a book with Val a la Seargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band in the Amazon with monkey's.. here's my main guy: Mickey the Marmoset.
