Pont Aven Update: pictures o' me

me in my studio, and me and my buddy rainbow!

Pont Aven Update: Kerscoet

went to Kerscoet, a tiny thatched hamlet, so unknown by those outside of Brittany that I couldn't find any images on google...

i love this type of illustration class, drawing is starting to be fun again and although sometimes i'd like a ton of photos, documenting it myself means a hell of a lot more to me....

Pont Aven Update: temporal tea trays

This is for my temporal tracks class, which is studying time, how we perceive it, how we measure it, etc and we are creating work to reflect that...

This first project involves creating an object or set of objects (mixed media) that will be left untouched, in some locale (buried undergournd, in a tree, under the stairs, etc.) until the last few weeks, the idea being to allow chance, entropy, weather, animals, whatever to take its toll, and we will then see how it has changed at the end. We have to document it three ways.

I was having a hard time with this since I have never done sculpture really or anything mixed media-ish.

I found this old book of French history at a thrift store that was falling apart and I got it dirt cheap. Since I've been gessoing books for sketching, I started playing around with it. I etched into the gessoed paper, to reveal the other side and the rest of the project just kinda happened.

They are going to be mounted on individual tea trays. The roots and floral details are etched in paper with watercolour/acrylic for colour. The teabags will have seeds in them, so hopefully something will happen with that. One will be on a wall covered by ivy, one just at ground level and one below. They are treated with different varnishes so I hope they decay, but not to the point of destruction. I really hope interesting molding will go on in the roots etc since they are less protected. There's a whole connection to this floral / tea hybrid thing but I don't feel like going into it. Childhood mostly and remembering my Gran. Anyway, I like them a lot so I hope to put them in my portfolio. Who knows....

Pont Aven Update: Studio Space

Some pictures of my studio! As you can see I'm definately spoiled here and I don't
want to think about going back to Ringling and no work space. I lucked out and drew the number for this studio which is in the Post-Bac section so I get a little space from people and I put up my easel like a wall so I have some privacy. I also have a little nook which is great for drawing, looking out the window.

A figure drawing (ink, 20 minutes), pic of current project, two paintings...

Pont Aven Update: first few weeks through Spain

Lots of sketches from around Pont-Aven and then a few from Spain. Madrid was the place to go for museums. El Prado houses the 3rd of May (which we didn't get to see since it's under repairs), Durers' self-portrait, Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights, Velazquez' Las Meninas, Carravagio's Slaying of Isaac, Medusa, etc.

Loved it but it was so overwhelming.

Saw a ton of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist works among more ancient and modern works and then a lifetimes worth of Picasso and Miro the last day. Otherwise I did not really enjoy Madrid. We had a run-in on the subway and my teacher was mugged so I didn't feel too safe. The food was too much for my stomach to handle so I felt sick a lot, :( The language barrier was hard to deal with but I managed. Barcelona was really beautiful but the museum we saw was a huge letdown. The Gaudi architecture is worth a trip though and I'd like to go again with Steph or Axel lol!

Here are highlights of my sketchbook from Spain and before.
